Imaginaerium is a new progressive concept project originated by Clive Nolan (Pendragon, Arena), Eric Bouillette (Nine Skies, Solace Supplice), and vocalist Laura Piazzai. The Rise of Medici is their first album, and will be released on September 30th, 2022, with the first single, Treachery, out on August 5th.

This is a true epic bit of prog. Symphonic, dramatic, conceptualized, and well crafted. It’s clear the musicians put a great deal of time and attention into this ambitious project. The flow of the album is laid out extremely well and will take you on a fascinating journey back in time to 15th century Italy.

The concept for the album revolves around the bank and political dynasty family Medici. Cosimo and Contessina De’ Medici were responsible for much of the rise in culture and education in and around their hometown of Florence. Their lives were far more complicated and complex than any one album could reflect, but Imaginaerium offers a small but important part of their dramatic place in history.

This is a truly dramatic piece, in the vein of Ayreon, or even musical theater such as Jesus Christ Superstar. If you like this style of prog, you’ll be very pleased with what this debut album offers up.

Tune in to Prog Radio to hear the single Treachery, starting August 5th, and many of the other highlight tracks, beginning September 30th. Imaginaerium brings something fresh and original, and we look forward to including this new music in our rotation.

4.5 Stars.
