Troubleshooting Problems Listening to Prog Radio

Prog Radio streams at a high 320kbps for CD-quality sound. This requires a fast and reliable device and internet connection to avoid buffering, which can cause the stream to cut in and out or stop altogether.

If you're experiencing issues with the stream, here are some troubleshooting tips:

  • Refresh the Stream:
If you're listening through a web browser, try refreshing the page. If you're using the mobile app, hit the "Reload" button to resync the stream.

  • Use the Fastest Internet Connection:
Connect to the fastest internet available, whether it's cellular or Wi-Fi. Test different network connections to see if the issue persists.

  • Try Different Devices:
Test the stream on different devices (computer, smartphone, etc.) to check if the issue is device-specific.

  • Switch Streaming Methods:
Explore alternative ways to stream Prog Radio here. For example, if you’re using an older mobile device, you might have better results streaming directly from your browser instead of using the iPhone or Android app, which adds extra layers of code and may be less efficient.

  • Direct Stream Access:
To rule out device issues, try connecting directly to our stream via this link: https://s4.radio.co/s1e0b382a0/listen. This link only plays the stream without album art or song titles, so it's not the ideal way to listen, but it helps identify device-related issues. If the stream doesn’t play reliably, it’s likely a network issue.

  • Special Tip for Android Users:
If you’re using our app on an Android device and the app stops periodically, your device may be restricting battery usage for the Prog Radio app. Remove this restriction by following the instructions below. If this doesn’t solve the issue, try listening via your device’s browser using our web-based player at www.progradio.com.

  • Try Again Later
Prog Radio uses one of the most reliable streaming infrastructures, with buffering locations worldwide. If you have modern equipment and a reliable internet connection, you should be able to stream without interruptions. However, streaming involves several internet “legs,” and issues on any of these can affect playback. Such problems usually resolve themselves within a few hours, so trying again later may work.

How to Allow the Prog Radio App Unrestricted Battery Access on Android

If you’re experiencing issues with the app stopping unexpectedly, this may be due to battery optimization settings restricting its background activity. Follow these steps to allow the app unrestricted access to your battery, which should prevent it from closing.

Steps for Most Android Devices:

  1. Open Settings:

    • Go to your device’s Settings menu.

  2. Find the Apps Section:

    • Scroll down and select Apps (or Apps & Notifications on some devices).

  3. Select the Prog Radio App:

    • From the list of apps, find and tap on the Prog Radio app.

  4. Go to Battery Settings:

    • Tap on Battery (or Battery usage).

  5. Disable Battery Optimization:

    • Look for an option called Battery Optimization (or Optimize battery usage).

    • Change the dropdown from Optimized apps to All apps.

    • Find the Prog Radio app and select Don’t optimize or No restrictions.

  6. Confirm Your Choice:

    • Once selected, the app will have unrestricted access to the battery, which should help it stay running in the background without being closed.

Note:

The exact steps may vary slightly depending on your phone’s manufacturer (Samsung, Google Pixel, Xiaomi, etc.) or the Android version. If you cannot find these options, try searching for Battery Optimization or App Management in the Settings search bar.
