I promised no more album reviews for 2023, but 'Press to Enter' is an exception that deserves not just a mention, but acclaim, and one that would have easily made my Top Prog Albums for 2023 had it come out a little earlier.
Simon Laulund Mogensen, the guitarist, bassist, drummer, and composer from Denmark, is at the helm of the young 3-piece band Press to Enter. A performing musician and guitar teacher at both the Music Institute Of Copenhagen and Herlev School of Music, Laulund formed Press To Enter with two other conservatory students during his master's.
“[Our] mission is to mix the progressive metal’s harshness and complexities, and renew it with a layer of catchy pop melodies.” Well, mission accomplished!
Drawing comparisons to bands like OK Goodnight, District 97, and Nospūn, Press to Enter delivers a melodically rich metal album with an edgy twist. From the band’s website: “[Our] mission is to mix the progressive metal’s harshness and complexities, and renew it with a layer of catchy pop melodies.” Well, mission accomplished! The musicianship here is outstanding. Good luck getting the guitar, and particularly the bass riffs, out of your head.
Start with the first track, just listen to the first track, 'Pall To The Wall.' If that doesn’t hook you and pull you in, nothing will, and you can move on. However, if it blows your socks off, like it did mine, you’re in for a treat…8 more tracks just as good.
Keep an ear out for this promising new band - I anticipate remarkable achievements from them in the future.
Tune in to Prog Radio to hear many of the tracks from this extraordinary album in our New Music rotation. Or...why not request a track?
