Maestrick, the prog power metal band from Brazil, delivers one of the most impressive and thoughtfully constructed albums of the year with Espresso Della Vita: Lunare. This long-awaited third album is a direct conceptual follow-up to their 2018 release, Espresso Della Vita: Solare. Together, the two albums form a dual-part journey, using the metaphor of a train ride to explore the emotional and philosophical stages of life. While Solare represented the brightness and energy of daytime, Lunare explores the nighttime leg of the voyage—more introspective, more mysterious, but no less vibrant.

Clocking in at 1 hour and 18 minutes, Lunare is an epic in scope but remarkably accessible thanks to its melodic strength and theatrical flair. Fans of bands like The Dear Hunter, Ayreon, Kamelot, Diablo Swing Orchestra, and Dream Theater will find a lot to love here. The band skillfully weaves together complex arrangements, symphonic textures, and a range of stylistic influences without ever sacrificing momentum or coherence. There’s a refreshing absence of growled vocals, allowing the focus to remain on soaring melodies, narrative depth, and emotional delivery.
It’s clear Maestrick took their time with this release—seven years, to be exact—and the result is an album that feels polished, passionate, and fully realized.
You can enjoy several tracks from this excellent album in rotation in all three channels at Prog Radio. As always, look for songs from this and other new albums to be featured in the What's New Proggy Cats? broadcast every Monday at 12 Noon (ET).
