This is not a prog album, but rather a break for Steve to explore his classical, acoustic side. I love that side of Steve, but more so when mixed in with a Genesis song for dynamics, rather than an entire album of it.
If you’re looking for a meaty prog album, you’ll likely find yourself bored with Under A Mediterranean Sky. No keyboards, no electric guitars, very little percussion, and only the occasional symphonic elements, this album feels more like a movie soundtrack than anything else.
The talent, beauty and virtuoso of the music is undeniable, and there are certainly times for such an album when needing more background music for riding a bike, taking a nature walk, or doing homework, but of course, the Prog Yak would prefer a good old prog album. 3 Yaks.
