I’ll make this a quick review. Less than 6 months ago, we gave Part 1 of Neal Morse’s biblical concept album about Joseph a stellar 5 Stars. That album, clocking in at an hour and 5 minutes, set a high bar, and today, "The Restoration - Joseph, Pt. Two," lives up to its predecessor and more, at 1 hour and 15 minutes. These two albums, totaling an epic 2 hours and 20 minutes, are best experienced as a singular, melodic prog journey, narrating an age-old biblical story. Don't worry if you're not religious; this album is about the storytelling, brought to life through magnificent prog artistry. After all, enjoying prog doesn't require a belief in wizards or castles in the sky.
Neal Morse's ability to consistently produce such high-quality music is nothing short of remarkable. The two Joseph albums are a testament to his enduring talent and creativity.
Much of the brilliance I noted in Part 1 persists in Part 2, yet Neal ensures enough variation to keep it fresh and engaging. If you were captivated by Part 1, Part 2 will feel like a familiar yet distinct continuation of the journey.
Neal, 'The King of the Closer,' outdoes himself with the last two tracks. 'Everlasting' rocks all over the place pumping you up, and 'Dawning Of A New Day' bringing a beautiful reflective take on Joseph's story, then crescendos into a 'Hey Jude'-esque finale, echoing the mantra 'God uses everything for good.' It's classic Neal, encapsulating the essence of the album in a memorable and powerful way.
Neal Morse's ability to consistently produce such high-quality music is nothing short of remarkable. The two Joseph albums are a testament to his enduring talent and creativity.
