Another great band and album I discovered hidden down at the bottom of ProgCharts charts. Even though this is their 5th studio album, as of the time of this review, Different Light was only 36 positions from the last position. This is why it pays to explore the charts here and see what gems are buried deep within them.
I love prog bands like Different Light who do not shy away from melody while still keeping the music interesting and “proggy." You’ll swear it’s Kevin Cronin (REO Speedwagon) on vocals, but the slight European accent will let you know it’s not, well, that and the fact that it’s surrounded by some amazing prog!
Definitely one of the year's best prog albums. I hope more people discover this band and they find themselves rising up in the charts here--they deserve it. The album is named “Part 1,” so hopefully that means there will be a Part 2, or even a Part 3, 4, 5, or ? We can only hope! 4.5 Yaks.
